Suvarna Karnataka

The Music Mint presents this vibrant song celebrating the joy of being in Karnataka.
The song marks the 50th anniversary of the state, and describes, with youthful energy,
what it means to be living in Kannada country, old as the hills, and new as today.

The song has the feel of a traveller returning home, asking for directions of the gentle breeze,
of the trees lining the road. The words conjure up space as does the music of old time relaxed living.

Translation of the Kannada lyrics:

Beesuva gaaliye helu, nanna manaya daari
Gentle breeze, tell me the way home

Daariya marave helu, innu eshtu doora
Trees lining the road, tell me how far I need to go.

Dooradi inukide maneyaa sooru
There, the roof peeps out

Aha jhumennuva nota, o nodu, nee nodu!
What a sight! Look, just look.

Kanna thumba banna, kiviya thumba haadu
Manna gandha chenda, habba habbavo, ellellu habbavo!
The eye feasts on colour
The ears ring with music
The earth is all fragrant
It's a festival, everywhere!

Nooru ooru sutti, sobaganella kande, eneno aatavo, maimaraso maatavo,
I've roamed the world, seen all the wonders.

Kande kande vismaya kande
Oh wonders, wonders, those wonders.

Matte angalada nenapu kaadi, bande bechane madiligodi
But thoughts of home grip me
And I return to its warm fold.

Kannada chorus:

The eye feasts on colour
The ears ring with music
The earth is all fragrant
It's a festival, everywhere! I just love this feeling
I wake up in the morning
I look out of the window
And I know I am home Flowers dance as I sing
I smell the earth it’s raining
I look out of the window
And I know I am home
